Russellville police investigating shooting that left Arkansas Tech student dead

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Police in Russellville are investigating after they said a teen died in a shooting Saturday night.

In a Facebook post by the Russellville Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 400 block of Ashwood in reference to a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers said that when they arrived, they found a 19-year-old with a gunshot wound that had died.

Police said that the shooting appears to be accidental, but the investigation is ongoing.

In a news release from Arkansas Tech University, the school identified the victim as Jack Poole, a sophomore at the university.

“Arkansas Tech University expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Jack Poole,” Dr. Russell Jones, ATU president said. “There are no words that can adequately bring comfort at a time like this. Our university community will be present and ready to assist in the grieving process for those close to Jack.”

The ATU Health and Wellness Center has counselors available if ATU students need their services.
