Cave Springs residents experience issues with their mail

CAVE SPRINGS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — As the city of Cave Springs grows, so does the demand for a full-service post office in the area.

Cave Springs had its own post office until it moved to Lowell several years ago.

“We outgrew the ability to continue doing the processing and delivery out of our local post office and it got transferred,” Cave Springs Mayor Randall Noblett said.

Ever since then, people in the community like Cave Springs Councilman Mike Middlecamp say they’ve had recurring issues with their mail.

“I’ve had misdirected mail and lost mail. I’ve had an insurance COB that’s floating around somewhere and a check to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission since last December has disappeared.  They never got it. We never got it. Never been cashed. But I’ve had mail that was held for five days. I didn’t get mail for five days. I delivered it two houses down,” Middlecamp said.

Middlecamp received mail to his home but was addressed to a name he didn’t know.

“I wrote on it ‘No one at this address in over 20 years.’ Three days later, I got it back with that scratched through. It’s insane what’s going on,” Middlecamp said.

Noblett has also experienced problems with his mail.

He says he received two Christmas cards this year even though one was postmarked in November and the other in December

“They got here on the same day in March. And like they’d just been sitting together somewhere,” Noblett said.

Middlecamp says he talked with Helen Cuthbertson, a consumer affairs manager at the U.S. Postal Service about this ongoing problem.

“She thought it was training. That’s what she told me, that people weren’t being trained correctly. So I called her this year and she’s looking into it,” Middlecamp said.

Noblett is also working to get a post office back into their city.

“I will do whatever I can to go ahead and get another one here because I think it’s needed,” Noblett said.

Middlecamp says this mailing issue needs to come to a halt.

“I don’t want special treatment. I just want right treatment. I want my mailbox closed. I’ve seen my neighbor’s box standing open with mail. I mean anybody could stop and get it. If it rains, it gets wet. So I just want it fixed,” Middlecamp said.
