Warrant issued for Springdale man accused of rape after missing first day of trial

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Benton County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for a Springdale man accused of rape after he reportedly missed the first day of his trial according to court documents.

Gil Alberto Carpio-Aguilar, 35, was arrested in December 2021 on two counts of rape. A heavily redacted probable cause affidavit says Carpio-Aguilar raped two minors multiple times.

At the time of the alleged rapes, Carpio-Aguilar was listed as the guardian of one of the minors.

Carpio-Aguilar pleaded not guilty to the charges.

After multiple court hearings, his jury trial was set to begin on Monday, but Carpio-Aguilar was a no-show. A bench warrant for his arrest was issued later that day.

A criminal summons says Carpio-Aguilar is ordered to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on December 9.
