Five Arkansans competing in Paralympic Games, here’s when to watch

PARIS (KNWA/KFTA) — The Olympic Games may be over but the Paralympics are about to get started.

The 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris kick off with the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday with five Arkansas representing the United States in the Games.

Here are the five athletes:

Kaitlin Bounds – Para Track & Field

The Russellville native and Arkansas Tech graduate will be competing in long-distance running events in her first Paralympics.

Medal Events:

• T20 Women’s 1500-meter finals – 4:09 a.m. CST on September 6

Olivia Chambers – Para Swimming

Chambers is a Little Rock native who currently swims at the University of Northern Iowa. The 21-year-old will be competing in her first games and won six medals at the 2023 World Championships.

• S13 Women’s 100-meter butterfly heat – 2:30 a.m. CST on August 29
• S13 Women’s 100-meter butterfly final – 1:15 p.m. CST on August 29
• S13 Women’s 400-meter freestyle heat – 2:30 a.m. CST on August 31
• S13 Women’s 400-meter freestyle final – 11:47 a.m. CST on August 31
• S13 Women’s 50-meter freestyle heat – 2:30 a.m. CST on September 2
• S13 Women’s 50-meter freestyle final – 11:47 a.m. CST on September 2
• SM13 Women’s 200-meter individual medley heat – 2:30 a.m. CST on September 3
• SM13 Women’s 200-meter individual medley final – 1:04 p.m. CST on September 3
• SB13 Women’s 100-meter breaststroke heat – 2:30 a.m. CST on September 5
• SB13 Women’s 100-meter breaststroke final – 12:33 p.m. CST on September 5

Jillian Elwart – Para Canoe

The Little Rock native started competing in para canoe in 2017. When she’s not out on the water, Elwart works as a pediatric prosthetist for Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Medal Events:

• VL3 Women’s Va’a Single 200-meter heat – 3:30 a.m. CST on September 6
• VL3 Women’s Va’a Single 200-meter final – 3:49 a.m. CST on September 7

Julia Gaffney – Para Swimming

Gaffney, a Mayflower native, has been swimming competitively since 2015 and is a two-time bronze medalist at the 2021 Paralympics in Tokyo.

Medal Events:

• SM7 200-meter individual medley heat – 2:30 a.m. CST on August 31
• SM7 200-meter individual medley final – 1:10 p.m. CST on August 31

Hunter Woodhall – Para Track & Field

Woodhall, originally from Syracuse, Utah, graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2021 and lives in Fayetteville with his wife, gold medalist in the Paris Olympics, Tara Davis-Woodhall.

He is a three-time medalist in the Paralympics with a bronze medal in Tokyo in 2021 and a silver and bronze in Rio in 2016.

Medal Events:

• T64 Men’s 100-meter heat – 1:23 p.m. CST on September 1
• T64 Men’s 100-meter final – 12:46 p.m. CST on September 2
• T62 Men’s 400-meter final – 12:33 p.m. CST on September 6

The Paralympic Games will be streaming all events on Peacock with select events airing on USA Network and NBC.
