    UPDATE: Police say drugs found on woman who hit 9-year-old Prairie Grove Middle School student

    PRAIRIE GROVE, Ark. ( KNWA/KFTA ) — UPDATE : Prairie Grove police charged the woman who hit the child with possession of a controlled substance.


    PRAIRIE GROVE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Multiple first responders helped a 9-year-old girl who was hit by a vehicle Wednesday morning at an intersection of Cole Drive and Viney Grove Road.

    Amber Dexter, 36, is said to have hit a 9-year-old at a crosswalk and fled the scene. She is arrested for leaving the scene of an injury accident and possession of a controlled substance (Washington County Detention Center).

    Prairie Grove Police Department said that the driver of the vehicle left the scene without stopping. They arrested Amber Dexter, 36, at the Flash Market. She was arrested for leaving the scene of an injury accident. Dexter was transported to Washington County Detention Center.

    The 9-year-old was evaluated on the scene by Central EMS, police said in a Facebook post. She was released with minor injuries.

    The girl is a student at Prairie Grove Middle School, police said. She was on a bicycle.

    The Prairie Grove Fire Department, police and school staff and administration responded.
