WATCH: Benton County motorcycle pursuit involving Arkansas State Police ends with head-on collision

BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A motorcycle pursuit in rural Benton County involving Arkansas State Police on Aug. 23 ended in a head-on collision and the arrest of a Lowell man.

According to an incident report, Tucker Collins, 19, faces charges of felony fleeing, 1st-degree reckless driving, driving on a revoked license, motorcycle riding without an operator license, failure to register vehicle and no liability insurance among other charges.

The report says at 9:26 p.m., police saw two motorcycles and a Dodge Charger racing from a stoplight headed east on Highway 412. One of the motorcycles driven by Collins had its emergency lights on and didn’t have a working headlight. Police caught up with Collins as he turned north on Highway 265.

According to the report, police also noticed a missing license plate on the motorcycle. The officer tried to pull Collins over but he sped up.

Collins ran stop lights and passed vehicles on both sides of the road at 90 mph, according to the report. Another officer north of the pursuit was able to pull out behind Collins and join the chase.

The pursuit continued for several miles at speeds over 100 mph at times when Collins turned down a county road. Collins reached a dead end and turned around to drive toward one of the officers behind him.

The report says the officer tried to get Collins to reduce his speed by slowly swerving from side to side. Collins drove slowly toward the officer hitting the unit head-on and was knocked off his motorcycle.

Collins was arrested and an ambulance was called to the scene to check his condition.

The report says Collins told police he ran because he had a revoked license out of Missouri, didn’t have a motorcycle endorsement, no insurance and hadn’t registered the motorcycle.

Collins was then taken to Mercy Hospital. He was later released with a minor injury to his shoulder and was taken to Washington County Detention Center.

The pursuit was one of two that happened during an eight-hour operation ASP conducted across Northwest Arkansas on Aug. 23.

Troopers were on a mission to “significantly reduce the number of impaired and reckless drivers posing a danger to themselves and others,” according to a news release. Troopers worked from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

More than 200 tickets were issued and 39 criminal arrests were made throughout the operation.
