    Fort Smith police investigate hit-and-run involving pedestrian; 69-year-old woman taken to hospital

    FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Fort Smith police investigate a reported hit-and-run involving a 69-year-old pedestrian that happened in the 1600-1700 block of S. 21st Street on Sept. 7.

    According to a press release, officers found the woman on that day with serious injuries in a driveway.

    The woman was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a different facility for further treatment. The release says her condition is improving, and she is expected to recover.

    According to the release, police searched the area, but no video footage of the incident was found on nearby surveillance systems.

    The investigation is ongoing. The Fort Smith Police Department wants anyone with information related to the case to contact the department at 479-709-5000 or 911.

    The release says police will continue to monitor the woman’s condition and provide updates as the investigation continues.

    There are a lot of cars driving fast in this area. I have called police to put more stop signs and to patrol more but no action. We see her walking her dog every day and she is very sweet. I hope they find who did this.
