University of Arkansas hosts annual 9/11 memorial stair climb

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Hundreds gathered at Razorback Stadium in the early morning for the 12th annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

Participants walked or ran the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs, symbolizing the climb made by first responders in the Twin Towers during the rescue efforts.

Nearly 1,500 people participated in the event, U.S. Army ROTC cadet Zachary Hutchinson said.

“I think it’s completely important, especially for the people like myself who wasn’t born or yet really remember what happened,” Cadet Hutchinson said. “This is a great remembrance… [and gives] a great representation to a fraction of what the firefighters had to go through on that terrible day.”
