Why you might see police at Trusty Elementary in Fort Smith on Wednesday

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — There will be a police presence at the former home of Trusty Elementary on Wednesday, but the Fort Smith Police Department says to not be alarmed.

The department will be conducting routine training exercises on the school’s campus from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

FSPD sent out a community notice to residents on Tuesday informing them to not be alarmed about the heightened police presence in the area.

“This exercise is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to ensure that our officers are prepared to respond effectively to any situation,” the department said.

Trusty Elementary opened in 1928 and closed at the end of the 2023-24 school year due to low enrollment numbers and the dilapidated conditions of the building.
