Walmart committing $6 million for Hurricane Helene relief efforts

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Walmart announced it has committed to spending an initial $6 million to help areas on the east coast affected by Hurricane Helene.

The funds donated by Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation will go towards water, food, essential supplies and grants to relief organizations, the company said in a blog post .

Walmart said as part of the commitment, the retail chain will match donations to the American Red Cross up to $25 million when customers donate at registers and clubs and on Walmart.com through October 13.

“We are also working with nonprofits and suppliers to bring much-needed resources into communities without access to power, such as free meals, WiFi hotspot, charging stations and laundry and shower services,” the company said.

Walmart’s website has lists of resources for those affected in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

As of Wednesday, three stores across the affected area were closed: Spartanburg, South Carolina; Asheville, North Carolina; and Boone, North Carolina.
