A man was charged in the 1977 strangulation of three women in Southern California.

Warren Luther Alexander was charged with three counts of murder in the deaths of Kimberly Carol Fritz, Velvet Ann Sanchez, and Lorraine Ann Rodriguez.

During a news conference on Thursday, investigators revealed Alexander’s DNA was uploaded to CODIS, a national database of DNA profiles, and it connected him back to the crimes. His DNA was uploaded two years ago when he was linked to the strangulation murder of a woman in North Carolina in 1992.

“And while we cannot bring back Kimberly, Velvet, and Lorraine, we can make sure that the person accused of these horrific crimes faces in Ventura County, the full weight and force of the law,” Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said.

Alexander was extradited from North Carolina to Ventura County. Investigators said they're not seeking the death penalty because of the age of the witnesses. He is, however, facing life without parole.
