A man who allegedly stabbed a woman to death in Irvine was fatally shot by police responding to the attack Thursday.

Police were dispatched at 2:51 p.m. Thursday to reports of a man attacking a woman on Green Tree Lane near Royce Road, said Kyle Oldoerp of the Irvine Police Department.

As officers arrived, they saw the suspect apparently stabbing the woman on the street, and it led to police shooting him, Oldoerp said.

The victim and the suspect were both pronounced dead at the scene, Oldoerp said. The relationship between the two was unclear.

On Monday, police responded to the fatal stabbing of a disabled man by a former caregiver, who was gunned down by police. Aaron Matthew, 47, killed 38-year-old John Alexander Bash III before confronting police with a knife, which led to him getting fatally shot, police said.
