In Rancho Palos Verdes, the Portuguese Bend Landslide moves slowly – between hundredths of an inch per year and tens of feet per year. This week, artists from the area gathered at the Torrance Art Museum.

There, KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian spoke with them at “Tryst”, an exhibition featuring their art that is going on this weekend.

“I visualize our… hills separating from each other and then the water rising and – we’re going to become islands,” explained Peggy Sivert Zask , the director and curator of the Portuguese Bend Exhibit at Tryst. While there is a thriving art community in the area, Tavidian noted that the challenges associated with living near the land movement can both inspire and hinder work.

For example, Sivert Zask’s husband had to prioritize working on their house instead of working on the piece he wanted to include in the exhibit.

Sivert Zask said she hopes people who visit the exhibition walk away from the experience with an appreciation of the art that fills – and even spills out of – her community. She also hopes they are able to feel the hope and deep connection of the community.

This show runs through 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Details are available here at the Torrance Art Museum website .
