It’s National Food Bank Day – and local food banks are in need.

David May with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank tells KNX News’ Karen Adams that one in four people in L.A. County are hungry, and the need is across communities and income brackets.

“What we're seeing is about 90% of the food that goes out into the community ends up in people's homes where there are, you know, people working, there is a roof over people’s head,” he said.

May said that before the pandemic, the food bank served about 300,000 people every month. During the height of the pandemic, that number jumped to over a million.

“And now after the pandemic and after the cumulative effect of, you know, years of inflation and the reduction in COVID-era benefits, we're seeing about 900,000 people on average being served by our food bank and by our partner agencies,” he said.
