Rolling Hills is now the latest community facing utility cut-offs because of seismic instability in the area.

KNX News' Pete Demetriou reports that the announcement that natural gas service will end for 35 homes in Rolling Hills starting Monday didn't surprise residents, given what's already happened in Rancho Palos Verdes , but they are wondering where and when this trend will end.

Leland Kraft, a 20-year resident in the area, says the future is not promising, saying other shutdowns may happen sooner than later.

"I believe it will continue because the land movement was an inch a year several years ago. Now, it's like an inch a week or an inch a month. It's moving rapidly, so it's gonna continue to go," Kraft said.

As for what to do about it, Kraft isn't sure, "I don't know. If I knew the solution, I think I would be a hero."

While Rolling Hills city officials are urging utility companies to strengthen the infrastructure, some residents are proposing government buyouts of at-risk homes as a long-term solution to address safety concerns in the area.
