Man shot in the leg during robbery attempt outside South Coast Plaza

A man was shot and wounded during a robbery attempt at South Coast Plaza on Sunday night.

It happened around 8:40 p.m. in the parking lot of the mall.

A news videographer at the scene said the suspect tried to take the victim’s Rolex watch and Lamborghini. Then the suspect shot the victim in the leg and ran away.

A description of the suspect was not given. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Costa Mesa police spokeswoman Roxi Fyad told City News Service.

This comes nearly a month after a violent robbery outside Fashion Island where three masked suspects tried to rob two men in the parking lot.

A month before that, three men robbed a New Zealand couple outside the same mall and ran over the wife, 68-year-old Patricia McKay, with a car, killing her. The men were arrested and charged with murder.
