"A female and a male were riding separate motorized scooters westbound (on) James M. Wood Boulevard near Westmoreland Avenue on the sidewalk," an LAPD statement said. "The female collided into a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk, causing her to fall off the scooter and the pedestrian to fall onto the ground. The female picked up the scooter and fled the scene, following the male, eastbound (on) James M. Wood Boulevard without identifying herself or rendering aid to the pedestrian, as required by law."

The injured pedestrian died at a hospital after being taken there by family members, police said. Information on his identity was not immediately available.
