Noe Santiago, 21, of Bakersfield was taken into custody after police stopped a Dodge Ram truck on Monday at about 10:20 p.m. near El Molino Avenue and Huntington Drive for a vehicle code violation, the San Marino Police Department reported.

"During the interaction, Santiago stated he had been previously arrested for possession of a firearm," police said in a statement. "The officer then conducted further investigation by asking Santiago for verbal consent to search his person and the vehicle. Santiago consented, and a search was conducted.

"The officer found a 9mm semi-automatic handgun concealed in the rear pocket of the front passenger seat," the police statement said. "The handgun was unloaded and unregistered. Additionally, the officer found an empty high capacity magazine inserted in the handgun. Along with the concealed firearm, the officer found a small handbag containing a plastic bag with a white powdery substance resembling cocaine."

Santiago was booked on suspicion of a weapons violation, and he remains in custody, according to police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the San Marino Police Department at 626-300-0720, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-2477. Tipsters may also use the website www.lacrimestoppers.com .
