Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger is disappointed that her request to move a hearing for the “pillowcase rapist” from Hollywood to the Antelope Valley has apparently been denied.

“I’m disappointed this hearing and its crucial dialogue will not take place in the Antelope Valley,” she said in a statement. However, Barger said she appreciates a remote viewing option offered for the Oct. 1 placement hearing at the Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse for those with internet connectivity challenges.

The in-person hearing for “pillowcase rapist” Christopher Evans Hubbart is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PT at the Hollywood Courthouse, 5925 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles. Judge Robert Harrison will be presiding. No public comment will be taken at the hearing and there is a lottery for in-person seats.

Last March, the Santa Clara County Superior Court found Hubbart “suitable for conditional release” and ordered the Department of State Hospital (DSH) to begin the search for housing in Los Angeles County, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Palmdale Station .

“The Department of State Hospitals proposed that Hubbart, who was convicted of multiple rapes in L.A. County and sexual assaults in the San Francisco Bay Area, should be housed in a remote community near Devil’s Punchbowl,” in Antelope Valley, KNX reported .

Barger has been advocating for residents in the Devil’s Punchbowl area. She said she feels it is “vital” for the community to be able to see the hearing.

Antelope Valley residents who do not have internet access will be able to observe the proceeding remotely from Department A19 at the Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse located at 42011 4th Street West, Lancaster, Calif. There is seating for roughly 50 people and door will open at 1 p.m. Recording of proceedings is prohibited.

Anyone can observe the proceeding remotely via Webex at this link .
