A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy pleaded no contest this week to charges stemming from an off-duty, hit-and-run crash on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Covina that left one person injured about 6 1/2 years ago, District Attorney George Gascón announced Thursday.

Orlando Sotomayor Flores pleaded no contest Tuesday to one felony count of reckless driving involving alcohol causing injury and one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run causing injury, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The off-duty deputy was speeding on the eastbound 10 Freeway when he collided into the back of another vehicle, causing it to flip over and roll several times before hitting another car shortly before midnight March 29, 2018, according to the District Attorney's Office.

He left the scene and surrendered to law enforcement about 4 a.m. the next day, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Sotomayor Flores is expected to be sentenced Jan. 13 to a three-month DUI program, two years probation and $5,000 in restitution, along with surrendering his Peace Officer Standards and Training certification, according to the District Attorney's Office.

He is also expected to be warned that he could be charged with murder if he drives under the influence and someone is killed.

WHAT??? He needs to do jail time!! How do we expect to charge these other criminals that are non Police officers to get sentenced to the full extent of the law when we don't even hold our officials to higher standards???? That is not right and they should not get a pass!!!
