Rookie cops in the Los Angeles Police Department are getting hazed, according to a new report from the police commission’s inspector general.

The report found that some of the “traditions” new officers are subjected to “could be seen as hazing,” such as being forced to shave their head, not being allowed to wear a jacket in cold weather, being excluded from events, and not speaking unless spoken to by a senior officer.

Hazing is technically banned by the LAPD, but the report contends that the department doesn’t do a good enough job of monitoring the officers who train new hires. The inspector general’s office called on the department to ban any practices that “might be construed as hazing,”

According to the L.A. Times , LAPD officials disputed many of the findings and said they’ve already corrected some of the problems in the report.
