    Santa Monica College employee shot and wounded, campuses closed

    An employee at a Santa Monica College satellite campus was shot and wounded Monday night, prompting the closure of all campuses.

    The shooting was reported around 9:50 p.m. at the school’s Center for Media & Design at 1660 Stewart Street, according to the school’s website.

    “ Law enforcement is actively searching for a suspect,” a statement by officials read . “All Santa Monica College campuses will be closed on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.”

    The chief of police for Santa Monica College told KNX News’ Jon Baird in an email that this was a workplace violence incident and not a random act of violence.

    The employee was taken into an ambulance in critical condition.

    The Santa Monica Police Department is investigating.
