    Police arrest 2, recover firearms in Long Beach

    Police arrested two suspects and recovered at least two firearms during an arrest in Long Beach, authorities said Thursday.

    Officers from the Long Beach Police Department were called at 1:44 a.m. Wednesday to the 6100 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding of reports about a group of people who were passing around guns, the police department said.

    Officers detained the people in the group, then discovered two of the suspects were in possession of a firearm and took the firearms from the suspects, police said.

    Both suspects, who were determined to be prohibited possessors, were arrested. Prohibited possessors include those who have been convicted of felonies and certain misdemeanors, those who are addicted to narcotics, are subject to a domestic violence restraining order, are a mentally disordered sex offender and people who have been found mentally incompetent to stand trial.

    The investigation is ongoing, police said.
