A robbery suspect who a sheriff's lieutenant said has a felony conviction was in custody Thursday after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed chase with a baby in the vehicle that began in Hawthorne and ended in Culver City.

According to NBC 4 , two suspects robbed a victim at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Beverly Hills and jumped in a car with a third suspect. They drove to Hawthorne, where one suspect carjacked a Kia with an infant and its mother while the other two drove to South Los Angeles, abandoned the original car and were arrested.

The suspect drove the Kia through downtown Los Angeles, Hyde Park and Inglewood before entering Culver City, where he drove on the wrong side of the street multiple times as he avoided other drivers and pursuing deputies, according to news reports.

South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station Lt. David Berry confirmed to City News Service the suspect was live-streaming the chase while the infant's mother begged him from the backseat of the car to pull over and surrender.

NBC 4 reported the baby was a 2-month old girl.

The chase ended at Shedd Terrance and Wrightcrest Drive in a cul-de- sac in the Blair Hills neighborhood of Culver City, where the suspect briefly remained in the car when deputies blocked it. As deputies approached the car, they saw the suspect was holding a baby swaddled in pink in his lap.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Daiyaan Henderson, then surrendered to authorities. The child's mother, who was in the backseat, exited the vehicle and also surrendered. Henderson was being held without bail, according to sheriff's department jail records.

"I tried to soothe her and comfort her," sheriff's Deputy Adriana Martinez, who was seen holding the baby, told reporters.

Berry confirmed the suspect was arrested on suspicion of robbery and told City News Service the woman was later released and the baby was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

NBC 4 reported the suspect would also be charged with carjacking and being a felon with a gun and ABC 7 reported that he would also be charged with kidnapping.
