Selah Mountain Ministries, a nonprofit in Penrose, is looking to help families in need have fun in the sun this Summer. The organization is asking for people to make donations for swimsuits, sunscreen, towels, and pool vouchers so families can visit nearby pools in Colorado.

"What we found is that when the kids come into care, they've spent their entire lives in survival mode. They just didn't know how to be kids," said Selah Mountain Ministries Founder Kim Nuss. "They don't know how to play, I mean the trauma and the stress is so high that giving somebody just a day to play, especially in the Summer, we shine in the Summer, in Colorado, it's the best here".

Kayla Bailey Nuss grew up in the foster care system and says events like these can help kids much more than someone might think.

"That's such a family thing to do, it just takes off the stress of it all, and allows parents and kids to have fun," she said.

Jennice Jones DeCamp, a foster parent, says that relaxing events like summer pool time is integral for kids to develop.

"There needs to be a balance in life, and fun is part of that balance," she said. "They need to be kids, they need to have that time of fun".

To donate, you can visit their website or drop off donations at Lotus Salon in Colorado Springs. That's on the Southwest side of town off Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard. You can also drop donations off in Penrose at 405 Broadway Street.
