    Rocky Comfort Greenhouse

ROCKY COMFORT, Mo (KOAM) - Students at Rocky Comfort elementary school engaged in planting 10,000 seedling this afternoon.

Today was a part of the overall annual greenhouse project. Over the coming weeks, students will be responsible for tending to these plants, which will later be showcased and sold at the school's annual plant sale.

According to agriculture teacher Lizzi Wilkinson t he project, which began at the start of the school year, encompasses a significant amount of work.

"We order in 10,000 plants and it takes a long time to plant 10,000 plants. But if we gear up for just one day, then everybody just works hard and works quick and they do such an amazing job planting," said Wilkinson.

Wilkinson also says that today is a long day filed with a lot of hard work by all students. Eighth grader Jayma Lynn was one of the students at today's event. Being one of the older students she says she has to teach and oversee younger students as they help. She says the task can be a struggle, but its worth it once younger kids realize how fun it is.

    Student Planting Seedlings

Wilkinson says t he project timeline spans several months, beginning with the cultivation of hanging baskets in August and September, followed by the planting of seedlings thereafter. She says this extended timeframe allows students to witness the progression of their efforts from small seedlings to fully grown plants ready for sale.

The culmination of the project will be the end-of-year plant sale, where the community will have the opportunity to purchase the plants grown by the students. Wilkinson says this event not only serves as a fundraiser for the school but also provides students with a tangible outcome for their hard work.
