Sam Barton signs with Missouri Southern football

ANDERSON, Mo. -- McDonald County High School senior Sam Barton signs on Tuesday morning to continue his football career with Missouri Southern.

Barton was a 2nd-team All Big 8 West and WMFCA All-Area running back his senior season. He helped lead the Mustangs to their first state quarterfinal appearance in school history.

The future Lion says signing to officially become a college football player lifts a weight off his shoulders.

"It just felt great to finally get a call [from MSSU] and go up there to get offered," Barton says. "It's a great feeling."

Sam's older brother Peyton is a senior at Missouri Southern, and a two-time national champion weight thrower on the Lions' track and field team.

"My brother has had great success there," Sam says. "I definitely want to continue the success and I want to make my own path. Going there to play football -- that's just how I thought I could do it."
