School bus crashes with Mount Vernon Baseball team on board

NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) — About 8:30 p.m. Tuesday reports of a school bus crash on Mo-43 south of Petro near Daphne Lane alerted Newton County E-911.

Newton County Ambulance, Newton County Deputies and Redings Mill Fire responded emergency. Joplin Police and Joplin Fire also responded locating the crash as it was near the jurisdiction line.

Missouri State Highway Patrol tell us a Mount Vernon school bus was traveling north on Mo-43, the driver experienced a medical emergency and went off the road to right at highway speeds hitting a culvert, ramping a driveway then nose-end into a ditch.

The Mount Vernon baseball team was on board.

The team was returning from a District game in Seneca.

Countless parents were there immediately after the crash.

One student was transported with non-life-threatening injuries to a Joplin hospital. The bus driver was transported by private vehicle to an area hospital.

Schrader's Towing removed the bus and debris.
