    Bridge closure on Route O for replacement project in Barton County

    BARTON COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) -- The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announces a bridge closure beginning May 20, 2024.

    According to MoDOT, the Barton County Route O bridge over West Fork Spring River west of Lamar will be closed for up to five months due to a replacement project.

    MoDOT says crews are set to replace the current bridge with a new wider one. The bridge is said to include new barrier walls, guardrail on the bridge ends, and permanent pavement striping.

    Traffic Impacts

    • All lanes of Route O closed at the bridge for the duration of the project.
    • Drivers will have access to entrances and driveways at either end of the bridge but will not be able to travel through the work zone.
    • Drivers will be directed along a signed detour using U.S. Route 160, Barton County Route J, and Missouri Route 126.
    • Drivers are urged to find alternate routes around the work zone.

    According to MoDOT, this agreement also includes replacement of the Route K/Drywood Creek bridge northwest of Liberal which is also set to begin Summer 2024.

    Prime Contractor: Hartman & Company Inc., Springfield

    Completion Date: December 1, 2024

    Total project cost: $2.7 million
