Joplin Parks Department updates tree inventory with conservation grant

    2024-05-24

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) - The City of Joplin Parks and Recreation Department is updating its tree inventory in city parks, funded by a Missouri Department of Conservation Community Forestry grant. This grant allows for assessing tree conditions and structural risks, aiding in effective tree care planning.

In addition to updating the inventory, the grant funded the pruning of a large tree in Spiva Park.

"Missouri Department of Conservation has been a great partner with the City throughout the years on various projects," said Parks and Recreation Director Paul Bloomberg. "We appreciate their assistance in caring for our urban forests."

The collaboration emphasizes the commitment to maintaining Joplin's urban greenery.

MDC's Community Conservation Program promotes sustainable development practices and the establishment of natural resource conservation practices in municipal and developing areas. Their support benefits the City in maintaining its Tree City USA status.
