Friday Forecast: Upper 90s, 112°F Heat Index, Breezy with a Rain Chance Late Evening.

Summertime is packing the heat, luckily we have a few rain chances in the forecast to cool us down.

Extreme Heat Watch:

• Extreme Heat Watch for Nowata County and Washington County until 9 PM Friday evening.
• Actual temperatures getting into the upper 90s and possibly reaching low triple digits.
• Heat index is forecasted to get up to 112°F in those counties.

Thursday Night Rain:

• Light showers pushing through after 1 AM tonight.
• May contain an isolated thunderstorm or two, but under severe limits.

Fridays Forecasted High Temps:

• Temperatures getting up to the upper 90s across the region.
• 98°F in Joplin, cooler in the northern and eastern counties, warmer in the southern and western counties.
• Humidity levels Friday afternoon also staying above 40% which puts the heat index into the triple digits.

Friday Evening Winds:

• Another chance of rain showers/ thunderstorms late Friday night into Saturday morning.
• Ahead of the rain, we see winds picking up and gusts up to 40 mph.
• Overall Friday is going to be breezy, but strongest winds in the afternoon to evening.

Friday Overnight Rain Chances:

• A cold front slowly moving through the area late Friday afternoon into the evening.
• Plenty of instability in the area, so storms will likely develop along the boundary and push east.
• If they stay strong to severe, the threats include large hail and damaging winds.
• This front will likely retreat and get hung up, causing us to have continuing chances of rain Saturday night and Sunday.

10 Day Forecast:

• After a very hot Friday, a cold front brings relief for the weekend dropping temperatures down to upper 80s on Sunday.
• Unfortunately after frontal passage, temperatures quickly climb back up and on Tuesday we are expecting a high temp of 99°F.
• Wednesday continues to heat up with a high temperature forecasted in the hundreds!
• 4th of July is going to be hot as well in the upper 90s.
• Afternoon pop up thunderstorms are possible throughout the week.
