    Fire department receives new equipment

FORT SCOTT, Kan. (KOAM) — The Fort Scott Fire Department has received a donation of new rescue equipment, known as the Victim Drag Strap, from a local business owner.

The equipment is designed to assist firefighters in carrying victims, including fellow firefighters hurt in the line of duty, during emergency situations.

Fort Scott Fire Chief Dave Bruner says he's grateful for the donation by local business owner John Horn.

"We're very fortunate that we had a business owner that wanted to donate some equipment, especially equipment like this, to have a piece of equipment that is readily available and accessible right at your fingertips for rescue situations is invaluable," said Bruner.

According to Kristian Lockridge with The Vicktim Drag Strap, it's designed to be easy to install, deploy, and store.

"The strap can be installed in a coat without modifications and is simple to use. After use, it retracts back into the coat, allowing firefighters to quickly return to their duties," said Lockridge.

John Horn, owner of Typhoon Bay Car Wash, provided the equipment to the department.

"We thought, this is going to be something that we can do to help our community and so we donated those straps, and today they're getting trained on how to use, and it's, something I hope they don't ever have to use. But if the need comes that they'll be prepared" Horn said.

Now that the department has this new piece of equipment, Chief Bruner says they will continue training with it and implement it as soon as possible.
