    Quapaw school district postpones first day of school due to storm damages

    QUAPAW, Okla. (KOAM) - The Quapaw school district has announced the start of school will begin on Monday, August 26, 2024 due to storm damages.

    The school district released a statement:

    “This evening the school and community was hit with a severe storm with winds over 85 mph. There is considerable damage at the elementary school and in the community. With no electricity, we will be evaluating the damage in the morning and begin the cleanup process. We will keep you posted on next steps. All activities scheduled for tomorrow have been canceled. Please be praying for our community.”

    “We have decided to postpone the start of school until Monday, August 26.  We will not have any staff professional development next week.  Open House (Back to School Night) will be rescheduled for another day. More updates will follow.“

    POWER OUTAGES AND COOLING CENTERS

    As of Sunday morning there are still 2,000 without power in the Northeast Oklahoma area. Unknown how many residents in Quapaw.
