WEBB CITY, Mo. (KOAM) — About 12:30 p.m. Saturday reports of a dog in a sinkhole between Carterville, Mo. and Webb City alerted both fire departments. Also police officers from both towns were present.

On scene we learn a citizen was walking the area looking for his dog, gone missing. He came upon the large sinkhole and heard whining. It was a dog. But not his dog.

We observe the small brown huskie-mix has a collar and is on a ledge. Water fills the bottom of the sinkhole. It’s unknown how deep the water is.

Estimates are 20-feet across and 30-feet deep to the water surface. It is directly east of the Forever Bed Home Office within Webb City.

Webb City Fire assessed the situation and began gathering equipment, back at the site. Carterville Fire assisting.

They arranged ropes and dropped a Webb City Firefighter to the dog about 2:15 p.m., who then harnessed the dog. And they were both pulled back up safely.

The dog seemed happy to be in the firefighters arms, not putting up any fight. The dog was transported to a local veterinarian for evaluation. There is no update on the dogs condition.
