AAA report reveals top labor day weekend travel trends

(KOAM) -- AAA is revealing the top travel trends expected for Labor Day weekend in a new report.

According to AAA , the summer travel season is wrapping up with Americans hitting the water.

"This is the time of year to go on an Alaska cruise," said Paula Twidale, Senior Vice President of AAA Travel. "There are fewer crowds compared to earlier in the summer, and if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of fall colors! It's no surprise Alaska cruises are sold out this Labor Day weekend."

AAA says overall domestic travel during Labor Day weekend is up 9% compared to last year, while the cost of travel is down 2%.

• Boston
• Las Vegas
• Denver
• Chicago
• San Francisco

AAA data shows that travelers hitting the road should expect to pay less for gas compared to last year's Labor Day weekend. In 2023, the average price of gas was $3.81, but in recent weeks, prices have remained around $3.50.
