Parsons police praise PROP after traffic stop arrest

PARSONS, Kan. (KOAM) -- Authorities arrest a suspect during a traffic stop as part of the Parsons Registered Offender Program (PROP).

"This is a great effort on Officer White part to look beyond the traffic stop. We participate in these state funded overtime programs to continue to educate offenders and create safer streets for our community. This is a great example of how a "routine" traffic stop can lead to bigger issues and how effective traffic enforcement is at finding criminal behavior that would otherwise not be found. I applaud Officer White for his diligence to the job," says Parsons Police Patrol Lieutenant Kyle Wiford.

According to the Parsons Police Department, Officer Tyler White was working during the Kansas Department of Transportation's "You Drink. You Drive. You Lose" program, when he saw a vehicle speeding at 55 mph in a posted 30 mph zone.

Parsons PD says Officer White conducted a routine traffic stop in the 400 block of N 16th Street. Officer White found that the suspect was driving without a driver's license. Officer White also found the suspect to be in violation of the offender registration act for an Aggravated Robbery conviction.

The Parsons Police Department says Officer White arrested the suspect for the charges of Violation of Offender Registration, Driving Without Valid Driver's License and Speeding. The suspect is currently being held at the Parsons Police Department Lock-up pending review of charges by the Labette County Attorney's Office.
