Governor Stitt observes National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day

(KOAM) - Governor Kevin Stitt has ordered Oklahoma and American flags on state property to be flown at half-staff on August 21 for National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

The Oklahoma State Capitol will also be lit in purple to honor families affected by fentanyl and raise awareness about its dangers.

"The fentanyl crisis has devastated American families," said Stitt. "We are committed to fighting this epidemic alongside healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and community leaders."

Fentanyl-laced counterfeit pills pose a significant threat to young people, with adolescent overdose deaths more than doubling from 2019 to 2021. First Lady Sarah Stitt urged communities to unite against this crisis: "We must have tough conversations on addiction and drug abuse to protect our families."

Governors and First Spouses nationwide are also marking this day, promoting awareness and prevention efforts.
