Home repair program for home owners

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) – Home repairs can be costly, but the Joplin Home Rehabilitation Program is stepping in to help homeowners in low-income neighborhoods with these expenses.

The program aims to provide support for improving homes in the community.

"Any time you're able to put a new roof or new siding and windows on a home, it's going to extend the life of that home. It'll increase the housing stock for future generations. If we're able to, to maintain those homes," said Johan Bullington, Assistant Director of Planning Development and Neighborhood Services.

The program will offer funding on a first-come, first-served basis.

"If you have a need, it's best to get your application in so that they can start working on assessing your home and doing inspections," said Bullington .

Approval for the program will depend on the location of the home and an inspection.

"To make sure the homeowners are in the approved census tracts. And then we'll be going out and doing the inspections and assessing the needs," said Ryan Peterson, CEO of Economic Security Corporation.

The program will mainly cover exterior repairs, with a maximum grant of $25,000 per home.

"HVAC, roof, siding, and windows. And we're still taking applications for that," said Peterson

This program is made possible through a partnership between the City of Joplin and the Economic Security Corporation of Southwest Area as a joint effort to revitalize the Joplin community.
