City of Joplin announces road closures for water main repairs

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) - The City of Joplin has announced that Main Street will be closed tonight, August 22, starting at approximately 7:00 pm.

The closure will affect the stretch between 4th Street and 3rd Street to allow Missouri American Water to repair a water main leak beneath the roadway. This portion of Main Street is expected to remain closed for about 4 to 5 hours while the repairs are underway.

Following the completion of the work on Main Street, Missouri American Water crews will shift their focus to St. Louis Avenue.

The section of St. Louis Avenue between 8th Street and the Railroad crossing to the south will also be closed for approximately 4 to 5 hours to address a second leak. The roadways will be reopened as soon as each section's repairs are completed.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays during these necessary repairs.
