JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — About 7:45 p.m. Sunday reports of a structure fire near 2nd and High Ave. alerted Joplin E-911.

Joplin Fire, Joplin Police, and METS ambulance responded.

We saw heavy smoke about a mile away from our KOAM studio at 7th and Rangeline.

On scene we observe active smoke and flames at the rear of the residence around the back porch.

Firefighters got the active flames under control in minutes. They are working to hit hot spots and if any fire made it into the structure.

We are told no one was home when fire broke out. There are no reports of injuries to occupants.

Temperatures are intense, still 93° as firefighters arrived. METS crews are providing ice water and support. The Salvation Army of Jasper & Newton County responded to provide canteen support to all on scene.

Officials tell us on scene two Joplin Firefighters were transported to area hospitals as precaution due to heat-related symptoms.

Watch for updates here to this breaking news story, KOAM’s Shannon Becker is on the scene.
