Missouri law banning police from enforcing federal gun laws overturned

(KOAM) -- A Missouri law regarding the enforcement of federal gun laws is now in question.

A federal appellate court Monday overturned the law, which bans police from enforcing the federal rules.

The court says the Missouri law violated the U.S. Constitution's supremacy clause. That clause states federal law overrules state laws.

“A State cannot invalidate federal law to itself,” 8th Circuit Chief Judge Steven Colloton wrote in the ruling .

Missouri’s Republican Attorney General Andrew Bailey said in a statement that his office was reviewing the decision. “I will always fight for Missourians’ Second Amendment rights,” he said.
