    Vacant house fire in Joplin’s Emerson Neighborhood

    JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — Just after 11:45 p.m. Monday night reports of a fire 1519 S Pennsylvania Ave alerted E-911.

    Joplin Police, Joplin Fire and METS ambulance responded.

    Visible smoke and flames from a vacant residence in the middle of the block in the Emerson Neighborhood.

    Active flames were extinguished quickly as firefighters worked to protect the home to the south from catching fire. The siding on the south exposure was melted significantly.

    Pennsylvania Command declared fire under control at 12:20 a.m.

    There was no one located inside or around the home. Joplin Police officers were talking to neighbors investigating.

    The Emerson Neighborhood is one of nearly 100 recognized on the One Joplin Neighborhood Map. The now-gone Emerson Elementary was about 3 blocks south of this residence.

    The One Joplin Neighborhood Map was created after the 2011 Tornado to help bring together citizens and build friendships and pride in the areas they live.
