TREGO COUNTY, Kan. (KOAM) — KDoT have been making plans in recent months to remove the 150 Avenue bridge over I-70 in Trego County. They say the overpass near milepost 117 has been struck many times causing structural issues.

“KDOT closed the bridge in March 2024 for safety reasons after it was struck multiple times by above-height loads. Plans to replace the structure are currently under consideration.”

Today after placing a barrier (sand) between the interstate roadway and the falling debris, it was demolished in one big boom.

We compiled video from KDoT NW and KHP Trooper Tod to show the demolition/explosion from 3 vantage points.

    • ⛔️ I-70 CLOSED ⛔️
    • 📍Exit 95 at Grainfield to Exit 128 at WaKeeney.
    • 🚧 Closure is necessary for bridge removal near mile marker 117.
    • 🔶 Use signed detour or alternative routes.
    • KDoT determined the bridge must come down after being struck so many times.

We knew a guy who did the very very best in bridge work. There were no failures. if a bridge collapses or breaks it the county or state to blame. Remember that bridge crews. Bridge work is serious business.
