JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — A Joplin Police officer driving on West 7th could see flames near 4th and Adele, alerting Joplin Fire Dept of a commercial structure fire.

2:55 a.m. Thursday trucks rolled out and on arrival reported heavy flames coming out the front of the building.

It was obvious the small commercial building had been burning a while, as the roof quickly collapsed, revealing the building was a total loss.

No one was inside and no firefighters were injured battling the fire.

It is unknown what business, if any, occupied the space. The former tenant whose sign is out front moved two months ago to East 20th Street.

Crews were on scene about 90 minutes.
