JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) - One of two brothers connected to the murder of a man in Jasper County, Missouri, is charged with violent crimes in the Kansas City area.

Authorities say Adin Aman and Jose Cantarero Benitez were headed to Oklahoma to buy meth, but got stranded in Joplin and were out of money. That's when they allegedly robbed a man, fatally shot him in the head and stole his car.

The victim was 63-year-old Oklahoma resident Jesse Gilmore.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, Jasper County Deputies responded to a reported body in the ditch off I-44.  Deputies got to the scene and found Gilmore's body, initiating a death investigation. They learned his vehicle was missing and started looking for a red 2010 Chevy Cobalt.

Authorities in Kansas City and Independence arrested the Cantarero Benitez brothers -- but for separate crimes not related to the Jasper County murder.

Here's a breakdown of the crimes authorities allege were committed by the brothers.

    Jasper County, MO, Murder Case

Jasper County authorities determined that Jesse Gilmore was shot in the head on the parking lot of the Road Ranger gas station, 2101 S. Prigmore Avenue. They developed two suspects in the case, which are the brothers.

According to the Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Adin approached the Gilmore, who was sitting in his car, at about 3:30 a.m. on September 16. Authorities say Adin had a brief conversation with Gilmore and then shot him. Adin then allegedly got into the victim's car, the red Chevy Cobalt, and briefly met with Jose behind the gas station.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office states, "They then both drove east on I-44 and pulled over at the 14.8 mile marker and pulled the victim out of the car and into the ditch."

Authorities say the brothers then drove to Independence, Missouri. Jose was in Gilmore's car and Adin was in a blue Toyota Tundra pickup.

In Independence, Missouri, police arrested Adin for DWI at about 10:00 p.m. on September 16. At that time, law enforcement there were unaware of his alleged connection with the Jasper County murder.

    Jose Cantarero Benitez

On September 17, a day after Adin was arrested, the Independence Police Department was called about Jose, who allegedly tried to carjack another vehicle and shot a woman in the chest. Police say he fled the scene.

Later, Kansas City Police arrested Jose after they got a call of another woman that he had allegedly pistol whipped.

The female victim who was shot is reportedly in critical condition.

On September 18, detectives were notified by the Independence Police Department that Gilmore's vehicle was recovered and the suspect was in custody.
