CWEP Board responds to mayor's claims, state finds no evidence of issues

CARTHAGE, Mo. (KOAM) - Following Mayor Dan Rife's statements at the August 27 City Council meeting and a subsequent press release, the Carthage Water & Electric Plant (CWEP) Board sought clarification from state offices regarding concerns raised by the mayor.

Both the Missouri Attorney General and State Auditor responded, stating they found no evidence to support the mayor's claims.

The Attorney General confirmed no advocacy for a CWEP audit, while the Auditor's office reiterated that compliance concerns were more appropriate for a city-wide audit, not CWEP.

The CWEP Board has not received further communication from Mayor Rife on the matter.

imagine that, there's no evidence to support the mayor's claims, who could've guessed.
