(KOAM) -- An update to a school bus fire in Fort Scott, Oklahoma works to improve the state's criminal justice system, and changes in school zones in Joplin.

Below are the top three headlines to know before you head out the door.

FORT SCOTT, Kan. -- Authorities in Fort Scott release an update regarding a school bus fire from last week.

School officials say the district plans to conduct an internal investigation.

Last Thursday, a school bus carrying 30 8th graders and three teachers was returning from a Kansas City Field Trip when the bus caught fire.

All of the passengers were safely evacuated, but the fire destroyed the bus.

A second bus was sent to bring the passengers home.

OKLAHOMA -- Lawmakers in Oklahoma want to fix what they are calling "Flaws" in the state's criminal justice system.

Much of the focus is due to death row inmate, Richard Glossip.

Glossip has been sentenced to die for the 1997 murder for hire killing of his former boss.

His attorney says his client's case represents many of the problems with the criminal justice system in the sooner state.

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The speed limit will drop on one of Joplin's heavily trafficked streets, as a safety precaution near school.

The city of Joplin passed an ordinance to reduce speed on 20th Street near Joplin High School, effective immediately.

The change is et to help high school students who participate in before and after school activities.
