    Hatchet attack in Pittsburg bike park, non-life-threatening wound

    PITTSBURG, Kan. (KOAM) - On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Pittsburg Police Department, along with Crawford County EMS, responded to an incident at the 23rd Street Bike Park.

    Around 4:00 p.m., authorities were called to the scene after reports that a woman had been struck in the neck with a hatchet.

    According to witnesses, the attack resulted from an argument between the victim and a 32-year-old Pittsburg woman.

    She is currently being held without bond, facing charges of felony aggravated battery.

    The victim, whose identity has not been released, was located deep within the wooded area of the park with the assistance of the Pittsburg Police drone unit. She was immediately transported to Mercy Hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

    The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Authorities have not released further details at this time.
