COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (KOAM) — One of the world’s largest restored steam locomotives spent Monday night in the town that stopped the Dalton Gang.

The Union Pacific No.4014, also known as, “BIG BOY” is crisscrossing 23 states on the Heartland of America Tour which celebrates 150 years since the beginning of the Union Pacific Railroad.

No.4014 has been through the K-O-A-M region before. It finished restoration in 2019 and continues to make fans across the UP railroad system.

It will stop tonight at Kansas City’s Union Station.

This is one of 2 dozen the railroad operated beginning in 1941. They were retired and scrapped in 1961. But Big Boy somehow mostly stayed intact.
