Fatal house fire in Webb City; Missouri State Fire Marshal assists investigation

WEBB CITY, Mo. (KOAM) — Firefighters were alerted to a house fire about 10:15 p.m. Thursday night at 604 South Oronogo St.

Heavy smoke was coming from the one-story single-family residence upon arrival. Rescue and firefighting operations began immediately.

" During interior search procedures, fire crews found one adult male unresponsive ," Webb City Fire state in a release. " He was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Jasper County Coroner’s Office. "

There were no other occupants in the residence at the time.

Auto-Aid units from Joplin Fire and Duenweg Fire assisted with the fire and rescue operations. Webb City Police and METS Ambulance assisted with scene control and medical operations.

Wyatt J. Fieker , 50 of Webb City was identified as the victim. The cause of death is pending the Jasper County Coroner’s report after autopsy.

It has not been determined whether the property had working smoke alarms at the time of the fire.

The fire was extinguished at 10:50 p.m. Webb City Fire officials are investigating the cause and origin of the fire which is believed to be accidental. The Missouri State Fire Marshal Division is assisting.
